The SBDC program is the SBA’s most extensive economic development program. It helps small businesses create jobs and strengthen local economies. The SBDC centers, more than 1,000 of them nationwide, comprise the SBA’s largest business counseling and training network, with locations in every U.S. state and territory.
Services Provided
The centers, in coordination with federal, state, local and private sector resources, deliver management and technical assistance to small businesses. SBDCs provide business owners with assistance in financial packaging, business plan creation, manufacturing improvements, government procurement & contracting, international trade development and numerous other business specialties.
Los Angeles Network
In the Los Angeles region, the LBCCD, as lead center, holds an SBA contract and administers and oversees the area’s SBDC program using resources provided by seven other SBDC centers.
LBCCD operates the seventh largest, federally funded and the largest, regionally funded SBDC in the nation. The Los Angeles SBDC Network received $2.7 million in federal funds in 2006, which are matched, dollar for dollar, with state, community or private funds. As a result, business owners in the Los Angeles region, have access to a professional, business assistance program with over $5 million in funding.
The LBCCD is one of 62 lead, SBDCs nationwide. Five others exist in California, which attests to the state’s business vibrancy. Texas has four lead centers and every other state has a lead center, as well as the territories of Guam, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, the District of Columbia and American Samoa.
